October 13.—The Provincial Secretary makes his financial statement this evening.— The Gourlays opened last evening to a very good house. —The Education Ordinance introduced by the Government is strongly opposed by many members.—Mr. Strauks, an old resident in the Timaru district, died suddenly, yesterday, from heart disease.—Mr. Hawkins, Styx Flax Mills, gets a bronze memedal from the Inter Colonial Exhibition, held at Sydney, for machine-dressed flax.— Comir-ercial wheat, 4s. 6d. to 4s. 9d. ; flour, £11 15s. to £12 ; oats, 2s. 41. to 2s. sd. ; potatoes, 235. to 255. Stock Market—Beef, 275. 6d. to 255.; 100 lb3. mutton (fat sheep), 3d. to 3id. per. lb.
