Thornton> who was heivexecuiive officer at the time of the-sink-ing", of £he Alabama. We understand that Tib en Captain" Thornton wns assigned to the oorjmand of tW.Kearsarge, he requested that tlie ship should be permitted to remain exactly, in the same condition as when the fight with the Alabama took place. This requ'egt trail complied with by the Department, and we are permitted to see the ship in the same condition and with the same battery as -when that most remarkable naval combat took place.
