Constable Jeffery was at once despatched to the house, when he learned the following particulars. It appears that at a^out one o'clock Mrs. Costello had occasion to lift a large < saucepan filled with boiling water from the fire, and in so doing it slipped fom her hands and fell on to her youngest child, aged two years, who was playing on the nig in front of the-fire. The screams of the poor-child were healt-rending, and medical assistance was at once obtained/ Dr. Ph'ilson soon anived, an I did what he could to alleviate the poor little sufferer, but, his skill "as of no avail, for the child died in gre_t suffering^shortly after 6 o'clock.
