THE TARARU STABBING CASE.
[feoii oub own corurspondent.] Tuesday, September 27. Tite man Joseph Escalliou, who was remanded from Saturday last, was brought up at the Police Court this morning, charged ■with stabbing John Williams, a native of the Friendly Islands, now residing at Tararu Point. Sub-Inspector Bullen conducted the prosecution, and Mr. Shapter appeared for the piisoner. It appears that the prosecutor Williams, and another darkie named Kakaio, were in Q-rahamstown on Friday morning last, and met the prisoner, who had some beer with them, after which they set out to Tararu, and called afc Davidson's Hotel, and had more beer, when prosecutor and prisoner went out arm-in-arm, with Kakaio a little behind, but had not proceeded far when Williams called out that he was stabbed, whereupon Kakaio ran towards the prisoner, who rushed at him witu the knife, but only cut his shirt. The prosecutor was then examined, and found to have been stabbed on the riiiht breast, and was brought to the Hospital, where the wound was dressed by Dr. Lethbridge. Information was at once given to the police, and prisoner was apprehended by Constable MuClouglin. The abovt< facts were deposed to by Williams, Kakaio, and John Doran, after which the prisoner was again remanded until to-morrow. — Herald.
