A very large number of our citizens and their families have been to see the Resaea, and have been receiving the courtesy of our Cousins of the Stars and Stripes. Of course this throng must have impeded discipline and duty onboard ship, aid though the American war steamer will not immediately leave our harbour, she will be closed to visitors after this evening.

We are glad to see that the hall of the Police Court has come under the hands of renovators, and that the dilapidated and filthy aitate in which it has so long continued will goon be a thing of the past.

i The Pet! v Sessions to-day had an unusual ro'l-up of cases, of the most miscellaneous kind. No- eof them was of any particular moment. The barbers' poles have at last succumbed to law, and are obliged in future to place themselves in a proper attitude.

The p.s. Samson, from Wangarei, put into the Tamaki this morning to land a cargo of cattle. She wiil come up the harbour this i evening. A horse attached to an express van bolted up Hobson-street about dusk last evening, at a tremendous pace, the man in the cart having evidently lost all control over the animal. The cart coming in contact with a large srone, the man was pitched out, but fortunately received no material injury. The horse rushed the cart against tho h'rebell_ at the corner of Hobson and Wellesley-streets, and at once came to grief, falling heavily to the ground. No great damage was done, however, except that some of the harness was broken.

The U. S. s.s. Re3aca will not be open to the inspection of the general public after today. We should therefore strongly advise all who have not yet visited the vessel, to take advantage of their last opportunity of so doing.

A mean and unmanly net of sacrilege ha^ been committed in the quitj.t little settlement 0} Mount Albert. On Saturday night Ist sdme evil disposed person or persons cut out a'square of glass from the Wesley m Chapel and scattered it about the interior of the baildii g. They also hove a number of beer bottles around the building, and in ether ways left the premises in a very offensive and disgraceful slate. The window pane was hacked about with a sharp instrument, but as no attempt app" :■ to have been made to get inside tho '- i.i iing, the whole affair iriusfc hive origin-. -1 iV-.jin sheer mUtihief. We learn Unit a few voting men and luds residing at Mount A H>-rt have often disturbed meetings in the Church, and caused a great deal of annoyance, and although some of them are suspected of having committed the above act, we trust for the credit of the district it is not the case. However we,trust that tho offender will be found out whoever he may be, for such, wanton destruction of property sut apart for the benefit of all classes of the community should not be tolerated. If persons do suoh;things for a " lark," they m.\j learn to their sorrow the cost of practical jokiiijf. ' • V

K"ow that the summer months'arc coining on, and the bathing season is commencing, we have much pleasure in calling attention to the great alterations and improvements that have been made in the Solid Eock Baths, at S males'; Point. During the winter months the sizepf the bath has been more than doubled, by cutting out a large quantity! of rock towards the shorej so that there is now abundance of room fora large number of swimmers'.' "At "the1 shore end' there is a considerable depth of water, and; from | the spring-boards the diver may take a delightful header into theeool depths i below;* The tyidii has been-snrroiinded by a fence securing the bath from observation^ more particularly from the land side. ;It.has,now., been opened for the season, and will, we have no doubt, be well patronised during the warm weather.
