MESSRS. TICKERS AND ORCHARD's REPORT.

The share market continues very depressed and there are few transactions to record. Shotover No 1 have been sold at from 7s 3d to7s6d; Long Drives, £12, cum. div.—£ll ex dix.; Caledonians, £17 10s ; Thames, £3. Bank Shares may be quoted—old issue, £15 10s; new, £14 ss, at which we have effected several sales.

MB. F. W. STEVENS' REFOBT. The market is still very languid; some business, however, in a few interests has been done—Long Drives, at £10l0s. and £11, ex. div.; Caledonians, at £18 ; Eurekas, at 3s. 9d. and 45.; Bank (new), £14 ss.

The winding up of companies and sueing for calls is still tbe order of the day, and until this state of things be cleared off, a healthier tone cannot prevail. It behoves colonhts to help one another in these times, and to cease litigation.

It is impossible to say what news the next mail may bring us, but so long as the Lritish funds keep up, we need be under no apprehension as to obtaining the loan. If the last telegram is to be relied on, consols were quoted at 91i, which shows that the Stock Exchange were pretty confident that England would not be drawn into the war. Consols may be regarded as the political barometer, and the price ascends or descends according to the chances of peace or war. If consols tall suadenly to 85 or thereabouts, war is to be regarded as close at hand ; and if on the contray, they mark 91 or 92, peace is pretty well assured. The members of the Stock Exchange watch narrowly the events occurring in Europe, andno men in the world are better informed.

Under the present aspect of affairs, the Government of New Zealand have very wisely determined to accept the Imperial Government guarantee of one million; the price, however, to be obtained for this will depend on who is employed, and the state of the money market at the time it is brought out. Auckland, Sept. 24, 1870.
