ARRIVAL OF THE S.S. « ST. KILDA.'

LATER FROM WANGANUI. TnE s.s. St. Kilda, Captain Flowerday, arrived in the Manukau this morning from Wanganui. She brings papers to the 20th inst., but they contain no news of importance. We take the following items from the Chronicle: — Flax Mill Burned. —We are sorry to hear that the flax mill recently erected at the Duck Ponds by Mr. Ritchie, was totally destroyed by fire on Saturday last. A spark from the flue of the chimney was carried by the wind into some inflammable matter, igniting the same, and the flames soon spread all over the premises. The portable engine was saved, but the value of the other property destroyed is estimated at £250.

Mb. Fox. —We believe that Mr. Fox intends to visit this district by the return trip of the Wanganui. He will then proceed to Rangitikei, to relax from the cares of State, and attend to his private business. It is not unlikely that the Waitotara settlers will present him with a testimonial in token of their gratitude and esteem for his conduct in the compensation matter.

Gattlb b'.vMs. —Mr. W. Finnimoro reports having sold at Curlyle, on 15th inst., about 150 head of cattle and horses at the following rales :—Yearling calves, £2 l'ls Csl ; two-year-old heifer», £3 19s ; two and three-year old steers, £4 18s Gd ; cow?, £G, £5 17s (3d, £5, £1 12s fid, £•_. 13s Gd, and £3 10s each ; hoises, £3 12s GJ, and £0 17s Gd each. The cattle offered were in a very poor condition, and the prices realised were extreme rates.
