The third Conversazione, in connection,with the Polytechnic Institution, took place last night, Mr. A. H. King in the chair. The Eev. Peter Mason, 8.A., Mr. Swanson, M.P.C., Mr. Sanderson, C.E., and Messrs. Sturtevant and Sinclair took part in the discussions. Mr. James McCosh Clarke has resigned his seat for .Newton in the Provincial Council, in consequence of being unable to devote the necessary time to attend the sittings of the Council. Captain Peek, of the Mary Shepherd, will preach a farewell sermon to-morrow evening at the Edwardes-street Chape). The Essay and Discussion Class, V.M.C.A., met at the llooms, Wellesley-street, on Thursday last, when a debate took place on the following question : "Is the imposition of Protective Duties, under the present circumstances of the Colony, necessary or desirable?" The debale was well sustained, the balance of opinion being in favor of " limited protection." The business for next night of meeting (the 22nd instant), will be a paper by Mr. T. L.
