FATAL ACCIDENT.—A MAN
DROWNED
THE ROBBERY AT THE THAMES
[from our own correspondent.] Thames, 2.30 p.m. The police have a clue to the persons connected with the robbery at Shortland on Saturday night.

Onehunga, noon
A seaman named James Gaffney, belonging to the s s. Taranaki, was drowned here at 11 o'clock last night. The deceased, in company with two others, was stepping from the s.s. St. Kilda to the wharf, and, consequent on the heavy rains, he slipped and fell between the wharf and the steamer. The poor fellow was drowned before assistance could be rendered.
The wife and family of deceased are expected from Sydney by the s.s. Auckland.
