THE MECHANICS' INSTITUTE.
Wb are much gratified to learn that in response to a request from the" Auckland press and the committee of the Mechanics' Institute, Madame Carandini and friends have kindly consented to give a benefit in aid of the funds of that institution. Monday evening next, and the City Hal], are the time and place fixed for the concert, one-half of the proceeds of .which"are to go to the institute. We hare no doubt that, with the popularity attending these charming songstresses, and the zeal of the friends of the institute, we shall s-ee a bumper house. Now is the time for those who wish well to this institute to step to the front j and when the committee aye evidently turning every stone to advance its interests, to show that their efforts are at least appreciated by the public, for whose interests they are striving. The programme, containing many of the choicest gems, will be published in due course. We are informed that the entertaintnent in the Mechanics' Institute itself, intended for Monday week, will probably be postponed, so as to enable the friends of the Institute to devote their every effort for the success of the Carandini concert on Monday next.
