THEATRE ROYAL

Last night this theatre re-opened under new auspices, Miss Joey Gougenheim and party appearing as the new Star Company. As might be expected, there wis an ovorllowing and most enthusiastic house. We regret that owing to pressure on our space to-day wo must be brief in our report. The play was the " Love Chase," which for its rapid transitions gave an admirable display of the peculiar abilities of the prima donna. Miss Joey Gougenheim must have been born a flirt; aud when the part requires it, she is irresistibly winning. In facial expressions, whether for upbraiding, denouncing, pouting, resenting, coaxing, she is really unsurpassable ; while her graceful figure and charming ratural acting make her absolutely fascinating. We need not say that the reputation of Miss Gougenheim, as an actress, requires no Auckland coramen dation 5 and we may only add that for grace, expression, and elan she is what she ever was. The whole troupe, to which on a future occasion we shall refer in detail, well supports the favorite actress ; and we predict for the new company a success unusually brilliant. " Court and Stage" is selected for to-night, and anyone that has once seen Miss Joey Gougenheim as "Nell Girynne," decidedly her best impersonation, will never forget the charms of her acting.
