Michael Tiemey was fined 5s and costs, or to be imprisoned 24 hours. John McGuffy, for a third offence was fined 20s and costs, or to be imprisoned 48 hours. ;**^ .*> INSULTING LANGUAGE. Ellen Dougherty was accused by Ellen Whituker, with this offence. The defendant being in hospital, Mr. Bennett for the prosecution, withdrew the case. MUNICIPAL POLIOS ACT. "Alfred Hayden pleaded guilty to allowing his chimney to go on fire, and "was fined 10s and costs. :. George Baker, for suffering a horse to wander at large, did not appear when nailed, and service of summons having been proved, was fined 20s and costs, or to be imprisoned 48 hours. Benjamin Gittos was charged with having on the Bth, kept bad smelling hides on his premises. Pleaded guilty. Mr. Joy, for the prosecution, did not press for full penalty. Fined 10s and costs. Charles Hawkeswood was charged with having driven a horse and cart across the footpath on the 11th inst. Pleaded guilty. Mr. Joy, for prosecution, stated that all he wanted was that he should keep the crossing in a proper state. Defendant promised to repair and keep the crossing properly, and was fined 5s and costs. bbead act, 1863.
Robert Kelly, baker, was charged with a breach of this Act, in not having proper weights and scales in his shop. Mr. Joy for the prosecution. Joseph ii-iJ!y, deposed: lam Inspector of Weight- and Measures. On the Bth instant I vis-ted defendant's shop, in Shortlanct-etreet. I asked where were his scales and weights j they were not visible. He said he had purchased a new set, and sent them to be stamped. I had before cautioned him, and told him the law on the subject. To defendant: I did not weigh your bread. Defendant stated that he did not bake the bread, and had had it always weighed before obtaining it. Fined 40a. and costs.
