THE AUCKLAND MEMBERS.

We extract the following from a leading article published in tke Wanganui Chronicle : —

" The Auckland members, under the leadership of Mr. Gillies, appear determined to resist Mr. Vogel's financial proposals to the utmost, while a somewhet influential member of the house, in the person of Mr. Curtis, the Superindent of Nelson, is reported to be ready to aid and abet their efforts. Nay more, it is rumoured that one of the "whips" of the of the Government, Mr. R. J. Creighton, an Auckland member, who has been editr of Mr. Vogel's organ, the Southern Cross, iias pitched his chief, his paper and his party overboard, and elected to fight under the banner of Mr. Gillies. If this be the ca3e the Government will have a strong opposition to contend against, and the alternative will be forced upon them of either abandoning their financial proposals, or appealing. ;to the country." ■ • ■ ■
