POLICE COURT.—Saturday.

(Before J. Naughton, Esq., and G. Graham, junr., Esq., J.P.s) D'BUNKEIOiESS. E. Burns for this offence was fined ss. and costs. R. McMillan called to answer for a second offence, and not appearing, forfeited bail. Eliza Lestrange, for a second offence, was fined 103. and costs, or to be imprisoned 48 hours. Mary Jane Smith, for a third oflence, was sentenced to a fine of 203., or seven days' imprisonment. John May, being drunk and disorderly, was fined 205., or to be imprisoned 48 hours. Barbara Walker, for the same offence, was sentenced to the same penalty ; and for using obscene language was ordered to pay a fine of 405., or to be imprisoned for seven days. MTTiSICIPAL POLICE ACE. Charlotte Giltnour was charged with allowing two head of cattle to stray in Stanleystreet. On explanation, and promise to take more care, the case was dismissed. W. llodgers, charged with allowing a cow to stray in Wellesley-street, it being a third offence, was fined 10s. and costs. Gr. Stevens, for allowing one goat to stray in Nelsor-stieet, was fined 55.; and Alex. Bell, for allowing two goats to stray in Vin-cent-street, was fined in the same amount. WIFE DESERTION. Alfred Edmonds was charged by Sarah A. Edmonds with a breach of the Destitute Persons Relief Act, in having loft, her and their four children without meaiis of support. Mr. Wynn for the defence, on Mrs. Edmonds deposing that defendant wa3 her husband, took objection to her evidence as inadmissable against her husband, and referred to former rulings of the Bench. The objection was overuled, and witness proceeded : —Defendant is my husband. He has been away two years, and during that time has only sent me £14. I have four children. He hus been living with a native woman, and brought her and their child up to Auckland. Sentenced to pay a nominal fine of os, and ordered to pay 20s per week for her support; or, in default, imprisonment The Court then. rose.
