THE LOSS OF THE STAR OF THE SOUTH.

ENQUIET INTO THE WEECK. A tbeling- of deep regret prevailed in town on its becoming known, on Friday last, that the favorite steamer Star of the South, a regular trader between Auckland and Napier, had been stranded about two o'clock that morning, and now lay on the beach between Clive and the Ahuriri Bluff, a tew chains beyond the slaughter-house. The circumstances of this sad accident' are detailed in the evidence of Captain Bendall, given yesterday at the usual preliminary inquiry held before the Collector of Customs, and which we subjoin. The sale of the wreck realised £341, as follows : — Hull, Engines, Standingrigging, &c £175 0 0 Spars and Sails 95 0 0 2 Boats, £7 10s. and £9... 16 10 0 2 Bower Anchors & 2 Cables 23 0 0 2 Kedge do. and Hawsers 5 0 0 Compasses, Binnacle, &c. ... 5 10 0 Coals (about 60 tons) ... 12 10 0 3 Lines 8 10 0
