A BOAT ACCIDENT. — NARROW ESCAPE FROM DROWNING.
Two men were picked up at an early hour this morning, while clinging to the bottom of an up-turned boat, off ,tho Piako. It appears that as Captain McAmuy, of the cutter Otahuhu, was leaving the Piako, where he had been detained for a tide through taking the ground on the previous day, after landing.a cargo of telegraph poles, he heard faint cries, as of some person in distress, but could perceive no object on the water for a time. Presently, however, the cries became more distinct, and a dark object was visible some distance off, which the cutter was put about to reach, in the hope of rendering assistance if necessary. They were not long is discovering that the object of their attention was a capsized boat of some description, to which two men were clinging for very life. The men were found to be very much exhausted - one of them even unable to stand on reaching the cutter. The unfortunate fellows were fishermen, who left tho Grahamstown wharf in a well equipped boat, about half-past 12 o'clock last night, for Piako. — Evening Mail. 1
