ARRIVAL OF THE ENGLISH MAIL.
The Circular Saw Liner Constance arrived in harbour this afternoon, bearing with her the English Mail, being the. third occasion on which the vessels of this company have anticipated the steamers ; once by the Novelty, and twice by the Constance. So soon as the signal was observed the Post-office authorities had the Enterprise under steam, and received the mails on board the steamer, off the North Head. It is worthy of note that the Constance sighted Tiritiri Lighthouse yesterday, at three o'clock, and was at anchor under that island at seven o'clock last night. Had we telegraphic communipation with Tiritiri, as often urged in this journal, or with Cape Colville, as advocated by our contemporary, the New Zealand Herald in this morning'sj issue, we should have had the mails in the city last Might, and distributed early this morning. Every week furnishes further striking proofs of the value of this most inexpensive telegraphic extension.
