W. Hollis, presented the petition prepared at the meeting, and sign ea by a large number of the inhabitants. Hig Excellency promised to give the subject Mi immediate attention, and that he would bare the matter laid before his responsible advisei-s, upon his arrival in Welling, ton. Ws sincerely hope that there may be no unnecessary delay in the settlement of this question. There can be no doubt that the influence of these uncertain tenures, as well as the removal of the Government Offices, &c, has had a very prejudicial effect upon the trade of Shortland.
