POLICE COURT.—Tuesday
(Before T. Ritchie, Esq., J.P.)
DRUNKENNESS. J. Davis, W. Gundry, J. Leonard, D. Weatherly, M. Burke, R. J. Legg, W. Hart, and J. Purvis, were each fined 5s with costs, or to be imprisoned 24 hours with hard labor. James Hooper charged with being drunk and disorderly, was fined 10s or to bo imprisoned for 48 hours. OBSCENE LANGUAGE. James Purvis charged with this offence, and pleading guilty, was lined 10s and costs or to be imprisoned 48 hours. MERCHANT SHIPPING ACT. William Lyell, master of the ship Inflexible, was charged with a breach of the above Act. Mr. Weston, who appeared for the defendant, applied for an adjournment on the grounds of illness of his client, who was confined to his cabin by severe spinal complaint. He called Dr. Tassell, who deposed that he was attending Captain Lyell, and that he is suffering as described. Mr. Joy, who appeared for complainant, stated tbat under these circumstances he would not oppose the adjournment, which was eventually fixed for Saturday next. The case to be further adjourned in case the defendant should be then unable to come to Court. The Court then rose.
