Last night a meeting was held at the Mechanics' Institute of gentlemen interested in getting up a series of entertainments in connectiou with that establishment. After considerable discussion, a> eommitteo was appointed to cooperate with the sub-committee of the Institute to prepare a programme for the first evening's entertainment, and to make all necessary arrangements therewith, and to report to next meeting on the'evening of the 26th instant. It was resolved that the entertainments should be of a miscellaneous kind, consisting of glees? 8o)os, instrumental music, readings, recitations,, &c. Jiighi.of the gentlemen present promised to take parts in the programme, and the committee was requested to obtain further assistance frpm amateurs, and generally to organise tjije entertainments.
