SUDDEN DEATH OF MR. A. R. CAMPBELL.

We regret to have to record the very sudden* death of Mr. Alexander R. Campbell, solicitor (of Auckland), which occurred on Saturdayevening, under circumstances of an extremelypainful description. Mr. Campbell, wlio* appears to have enjoyed his usual health during the day, went into Otto's dining-rooms, Owen-street, about half-past six o'clock, aud sat down to partake of some tea at th* table, at which three or four other gentlemen were also partaking of refreshment. He was observed to become suddenly ill, and Mr Otto's attention was called to the situation of his guest, who was then in an apparently weak and helpless condition. Mr. Otto assisted the deceased out ofthe room into the open air, and requested him to lean against* post in the yard for support while he went for assistance. Finding that he was unable even to support himself, Mr. Otto placed"him in a corner in a sitting posture, and a messengtr was sent to the police station. Constables Cosgrove and Purcel arrived at once, and sent for medical assistance, but when Dr. Oliver arrived, which he did almoßt immediately, Mr. Campbell was dead. The body was taken to the Stafford Hotel, close at hand, where a coroner's inquest will be held to day. We have heard that on the previous evening Mr. Campbell was attacked in a similar manner in Albert-street. Deceased was clerk in the employ of Messrs. Jackson and Russell, of Auckland, and was engaged in conducting cases before the Goldfields' Reward Commissioners lately sitting at Grahamstown, and more recently in preparing legal documents for Mr. Robert Graham. He was a native of ' Greenock, and highly connected. His demist will be deeply regretted by a large circle of acquaintances.— Thames Advertiser.
