LOSS OF THE BEAUTIFUL STAR,

By the s.s. John Perm we regret to learn that the steamer Beautiful Star has been lost at "Wanganui. The vessel was proceeding down the Wanganui river with a full cargo of wool, tallow, sheep, and pigs, for Dunedin, when she struck on a snag, and sunk in ten feet of water at high tide. A considerable part of the cargo was transhipped into the John Perm on Friday morning. Captain Christian intended landing the remainder on the following day, and would without delay commence operations with a view of floating her.
