ARRIVAL OF THE STAR OF THE SOUTH.

Tlie s.s. Star of the South, Capt. Bendall, arrived in harbour this morning from Napier with a cargo of cattle and slieep for Messrs. Carey, Gilles, Hunt or and Co. She loft here Sunday, the 10th instant, at 6 a.m., and arrived off Opotil.i at daylight on Monday. At 3 p.m. same day, the Government steamer Sturt came off, having on board Major Kemp, the chief Topia, and about 370 Wanganui natives, and 31 Maori prisoners, the worst of the lot taken. They were all transhipped to the Star, which immediately left for Wellington. Experienced moderate head winds to Cape Turnagain, which was passed at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, the 13th, when the wind increased to a strong gale, with nasty thick ■weather, necessitating her taking shelter at Castle Point, at which place she anchored at 3 p.m. on Thursday, the 14th, when, the wind having moderated, she proceeded on her Toyage, and arrived at Wellington at 12 noon last Friday. Left that port at 4 p.m. next day, Saturday, and experienced strong head ■winds and heavy seas to Cape Palliser, which ■was rounded at 1 a.m. on Sunday. Thence to Cape Kidnappers had strong easterly •winds, with heavy sea and thick weather, arriving off the Capo at 7 p.m. on Sunday, where she hove to, awaiting daylight to enter the Iron Pot, which she did at 8 a.m. on the 18th. She then took in a cargo of cattle, and left for' Auckland on Tuesday last at midnight Oapt. Bendall reports fresh head winds throughout.
