ANNUAL LICENSING MEETING.
Before T. Beckham, Esq., R.M., and "Captains Young and East, Messrs. Lusk, Morrow, O'Neill, and Home, J.P.'s. Mr. Beckham, in opening the Court, stated that there had been no objections made to the renewal of any ofthe old licenses, and that the only difficulty would be in the case of those holding two or more licenses, and the Bench had resolved to not grant two licenses to any one person. - Mr Wynn, acting as amicus-, curies, stated, that the Bench was not competent to refuse such licenses unless objection had been made ; but the Court expressed determination to grant no double license, and instructed the clerk accordingly. The following licenses were accordingly granted, except in the case of a second or third hotel held by the same proprietor, the consideration of which was adjourned. NEW APPLICATIONS. Henry Bedell made application for a license for the Wynyard Pier Hotel. Mr. Beveridge and Mr. Hesketh appeared for objectors; Mr. Joy appeared for the applicant. Two petitions were presented against the issuing of the license from inhabitants in Official Bay and neighbourhood, urging that there were two hotels already there within 200 yards, viz., Roval and Railway terminus.
The Bench refused the license. Andrew Fernandez made application for a license for the Railway Terminus Hotel, in Official Bay, which had already had a license within the past five years. Mr. Beveridge appeared for applicant. Granted. George Gt-iles applied for license for the Stag's Head, Upper Queen-street. Mr. Beveridge appeared for applicant. License refused.
William Head applied for license for the Swan of Avon, at corner of Abercrombie and Wakefield streets. Mr. Beveridge applied for applicant. Application refused on grounds of insufficient accommodation.
John Lockwood applied for license for the Robert Burns Hotel in Union-street, Freeman's Bay. Mr. Hesketh, for applicant, showed that from a change in ownership the license formerly held had lapsed. Granted. Edward Perkins applied for license for a new hotel and restaurant in Vulcan Lane. Mr. "Wynn appeared for applicant; Mr. Joy for objectors. A plan of the house, as intended to be completed, was submitted, and a petition influentially signed ; and it was resolved that if the house was completed according to the plan, no objection would be raised by the Bench. Henry Bipley applied for license for the York Hotel, in East-street, Newton. Mr. Beveridge, for applicant, showed the premises to have been originally used for the same purpose, and removed from any other Hotel. Granted.
Edward Sharp applied for a license for the Flying Squadron Hotel, Karangahape road Mr. James Russell applied for applicant. Granted.
George Tavlor applied for a license for his Restaurant in Lower Queen-street. Mr. Joy for applicant ; Mr. Wynn for objectors. Mr. Wynn objected, on the grounds of personal character, to Mr. Taylor having a license, and called on Mr. Commissioner Naughton, who stated that applicant had been living in adultery with women in his own house, and would not deny it himself; that he had recently come to complain of his last woman having run away from him. Application refused.

The bush licenses were granted in rjlobo. Wednesday, 29th June, was fixed for hearing the adjourned cases, and the Court rose at ten minutes past two.
