LATEST SOUTHERN TELEGRAMS.

The s.s. Star of tho South arrived in harbour this morning, bringing Hawke's Bay papers to the sth inst. We make the following extracts :— WELLINGTON. Monday, April 4. The Government has informed Tricker's committee that it has been determined to hold an enquiry before two members of the Executive, at the Gaol, on Wednesday next, into the confession aud statement alleged to have been made by Tricker in gaol, and to submit the evidence to the test of cross examination. The attendance of all witnesses on the subject is requested. The committee have been asked to find counsel on behalf of Tricker, and have secured the services of Messrs. Robert Hart and Allen. A private meeting is being held to consider the propriety of forming a new Steam Company, to purchase the N.Z.S.N. Co.'s plant. Dr. Grace has been called to the Legislative Council.
