ARRIVAL OF THE WILLIAMS.

The paddle steamer Williams, a very fine Teasel of 200 tons register, the property of the A.S.N. Company, arrived in harbour on Saturday night from Sydney, bringing the Auckland portion of the English mail. The Williams, which on her trial trip averaged twelve knots an hour, has been sent here to ply between this port and the Thames, and she certainly appears to be admirably adapted for the pur-pose. She possesses a very totM,tftl,\S_,«_P%__fiSS - ladies* cabin, fitted, up has also good steerage accommodation. Capt. Blick (formerly of the Auckland), with his able chief officer, Mr. Bunks, have charge of the vessel. Both of these gentlemen are favorably known here, and the Company have acted wisely in placing them in the position they now occupy.

The Williams left Sydney on the 19th, and cleaned the Heads at 1 p.m. ; rounded the North Cape at 3.30 a.m on the 25th, and arrived at the wharf at midnight on Saturday. At midnight on the 19th she experienced a heavy S.E. gale, with terrific sea, and was obliged to keep ship head to wind, and engines eased to" quite slow, the sea making a clean breach over the ship, carrying away various parts of her bulwarks forward, and deck-house, and doing sundry other damage. At 8 a.m. on the 21st wind veered to N.E., with furious squalls (barometer 28.95) ; towards midnight kept ship on her course, and engines set to full speed. During the remainder of the passage had strong easterly breeze and cloudy weather, arriving as above. Passed a barque working southward, off Colville Island.

Passengebs :—Saloon : Colonel the Hon. C. E. Edgecombe, and three in the steerage. We have to thank Captain Blick and Mr, Banks for late Sydney and Melbourne papers.
