Excellency the Governor-in-Chief has been pleased to direct the publication oj the following Warrant under the Royal Sign Manual and Signet. To Our Trusty and Well-beloved George Grey, Esquire, Our Governor-in-Chief in and over Our Islands of New Zealand, Our Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Our Province of New Ulstei, and Our Governor and Com-mander-in-Chief in and over Our Province of New Munster in our said Islands, Greeting. With this you will receive a Seal prepared by Our Order for the use of the general Government of Our Islands of New Zealand, and Seals prepared by Our Order for the use of the two Provinces of New Ulster and New Munster, in Our said Islands. Our Will and Pleasure is, and We do hereby authorize and direct that the Seals be used in Sealing all Public Instruments which shall be made and passed in Our Name and for Our Service in Our Said Islands of New Zealand, and the said Provinces of New Ulster, and New Munster in the said Islands respectively. Warrant authorizing the use of the Public Seal of the general Government of the Islands of New Zealand, and the Public Seals of the Two Provinces of New Ulster and New Munster in the said Islands,

SALE OF CROWN LANDS. Colonial Secretary's Office, Auckland, October I2th y 1848. Y the 28th Section of the Royal Instructions relating to the settlement of Waste Lands of the Crown it is provided, as follows : "It shall be competent to any person within three calendar months next after any such auction to become, without any further auction, the purchaser of any lands so put up to sale as aforesaid, and not then sold, by offering and paying for the same the upset price at w r hich the same may have been so put up to sale.' 1 His Excellency the Governor has therefore directed it to be notified, that all persons wishing to purchase land under the terms of the above regulation should pay into the hands of the Colonial Treasurer the upset price of any lands they may wish so to purchase, and that upon their depositing the Treasurer's receipt at the office of the Surveyor General a deed of grant will be prepared. The person who may first deposit the purchase money for any particular portion of land with the Treasurer will be regarded by the Government as the true purchaser. Colonial Secretary's Office, Auckland, 12th October, 1848. *EFIS Excellency the Governor-in- Chief has been pleased to direct that for the future no Postage shall be charged on any Newspaper* received at, or despatched from any Port of this Colony, from or to places beyond the seas, nor upon .any Newspapers received at or despatchedfrom any Post Office within this Colony, from or to any other Post Office in New Zealand. This regulation to take effect at Auckland immediately after the publication of this Gazette, and at Russell and New Plymouth, on the day following the receipt hereof at the respective Post Offices.
