Conditions on which it is proposed to enrol Pensioners for service in New Zealand. The candidates for this employment must invariably be men of good character and of industrious habits. Their utmost age is not to exceed 48, and their minimum height must not belesa than 5 feet 5 inches; they must be of a robust frame, and be medically approved of, as fit for the occasional military duties required. The pensioners mav'be selected either from those who have been enrol'ed in local companies, or from those who have been repeated fit for that dutv, but not enrolled in consequence at the distance at which they reside from the head quarters of the district* or other causr. Serjeants and Corporals, who have been pensioned as such, may be included in the force, in th* proportion of about one Seijeant and one Corporal for every twenty men. If ihe other qualification* of ihe candidates are satisactory, no objections will be made to their enrolment on the ground of their being married men or having families. I The candidates approved of wi'l be enrolled to serve i for seven years, on the following terms They will receive pay at the rate of one shilling and threepence per day, in addition to pension, from the : period they ara c«Hed on to leave their homes till the date of embarkation, with conveyance at the public expense for themselves and their families, to the port of embarkation. They will receive a free passage to New Zealand for them e elres, their wives, and the r families, with rations at the public expense, in the proportions usually issued on ship-board, and from which no deduction will be made from their pensions. They will receive an advance of three months' pension on embarkation, with a further advance of one month's pension for evpry child, to be applied, under the direction of the Officer placed over theui, in purchasing the necessary outfit for the voyage. On arriving in New Z j aland each pensioner will be put in ros-essmn of a cottage of 'wo rooms, with an acre of land attached thereto, one fourth part of which will be cleared and made read? for cultivation at the public expense, preparatory to his arrival. Each pensioner will, on entering to pns«e«ion of this cottage and land, receive such an advance of money as may be found necessary, to be applied under the direction of his Officer, in j-rnvidiog articles of furniture, cooking utensils, stock, &c. as may be requisite. All advances thus made from the pension are to be repaid by the application of the whole pension whileou ship board, and one third thereof af.cr landing till the debt is cleared off. In the event of any pensioner thus enrolled not attending when ealled out lur these duties, be will be liable to the penalties of desertion, iu addition to forfeiture of pension. On the terminat'on of the seven years' service for which the enrolment is made, the cottage and allotment of the ground wdl become the absolute property of the pensioner, provided that he has fulfilled (he conditions of his agreement; and he shall be subject to no further md'rary du'y than may te exacted irom any other settler in defence of the colony. Tory condition of the establishment. In the case of death, an allowance'of one guinea will be made to cover the expense of funeral. &c. Military Colonisation at Hubson's Bat.— It being the intention of Government to establish a military colony at Fort Garry, Hudson's Bay, on a similar principle to that in New Zealand, the Secretary-at. War has issued the following conditions, upon which Military pensioners will be enrolled for service in that colony: Hip candidates must not exceed forty-five years of age, five feet six inches iu height, of a robust frame and medically approved o£ No objection will be wade to married men having families, provided the number of children docs not exceed three. The pen15ill bo enrolled to serve seven years, will receive pav at the rate of Is. 3d. per day for a private* Is. Gd. for a corpor.il, and Is. lOd. for a serjeant, in addition to their pensions, to commence from the period thev ate called on to Have their homes till they embark, with a free conveyance for themselves and families, at tlie pub'ic expense. A free passage to Fort Gany, with rations on tbe voyage, will be given them. Previous to their quitting England, an advance of two mouths' pension, and a turther advance of one months' pension tor each child, will be given to purchase an outfit for the voyage. On arriving at Fort Garry, each pensioner will be provided with quarters in or near the fort, and will be also entitled to a temporary grant of land, not exceeding twenty acres for a private, thirty to a corporal, and forty to a serjeant, of a description fit for ullage, and within two miles of the fort. Advances of money will be made for the purchase of furniture, &c., but these advances will be deducted from the pension. The pensioner, during the first year of service, will rereive pay from the Hudson's Bay Company at the rate of 7s. per week (if a prhatc), and of3s. a week during the following year, in return for which he will be liable 1o be employed during the first three days in each week and six days m each month during the second year, either m public works, or in drilling militia, or in such du'y 3s the Governor shall direct. Corporals and Serjeants v.t'l receive an extra remuneration at the rate of I s, per week for the former, and 2s. for the latter, during the first year, and half the amount during the second year. The men are also to attend military exercise, without pay, twelve days iu each year, and on every Sunday for muster at church parade. At the termination of the seven years, for which the enrolment h made, the hnd is to become the absolute property of the pensioner ; but the Company can reclaim the land uithin six 3 ears on pa>ing to the pensioner the present value of it, or giving a grant of laud of treble the extent at a greater distance from the fort. Medical attendance will be provided at the expense of the Com* panv, and if wounded cr disabled in the execution of their duty, they will be entitled to additional pension.
