Public Income and Expenditure.—An account of the net public income of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, for the year ending the sth April, 1848, (after abstracting the expenditure there out defrayed by the several revenue departments.) and of the actual issues of payments within the same periods, has just been issued by order of the House of '.Commons. The excess of expenditure appears to amount to the enormous sum of .-43,092,284 13s Id. The balances in tbe Exchequer on the 6th of April, IS4B, were £6,768,33t> 16s 3|d. The receipts under the head ordinary revenue are as follows—Customs, £19,940,295 10s loJ; Excise, £13,276.879 4s; Stamps, £7.519,u53 5s 2d ; Taxes, (land and assessed), £4,347,570 14s 4d; Property tax, £5,459,368 3s lOd; Post office, ±'932,000; Crown Lands, £61,000 Poundage on pensions and salaries, £4,839,16s lOde Small branches of the hereditary revenues of th Crown, £4,»55 9s 3d ; Surplus fees of regulated public offices, £106,447 Os 3d: Repayment of monies received into Commissariat che*t~at Hongkong, out of the indemnity paid by the Chiuese government, £455,021 Is; Imprest and other monies, £liG 127 Is 7d ; Money received from the East India Company, £63,000; excess of expenditure over income, £3.092,284 13s Id ; total receipts, £55,175,042 Is Id. The account of the balance of the puhlic money shows that £7.003 574 10s sd, was raised in the year as funded debt, and £17,802,400 as unfunded debt, in the shape of Exchequer bills charged on supplies. These sums, in addition to the balances in the Exchequer on the sih April, amount to £3O 265,809 12s 9d. Of this sum there was issued to CsmmUsioiters for the reduction of the Nations Debt, £192,890 9s 6d; for West India Relief Bill, £28,000; payment of supply, Exchequer hills £136,700; Exchequer bills for payment of supply bills £17.802,400; local works in Ireland, £3,133, 763 3s 50. Land and Assessed Tasks in England and Scotland. —The land and assessed taxes in England and Scotland, in the yesr 1547, yielded to the nations, Exchequer, £4,553.859—name1y, England, £4,266 088; tcotland, £287,771. The English revenue is thus made up—Land tax. £1,119,878; winduw tax, £1,544,356; servants, £193,919; carriages, £400, 457 ; horses for ridine, £293,998 ; other liorses and mules, £67,379; dogs. £137,757; horse deale s, i.9,368; hair powder, £2,689; armorial bearings, £65,441; game duties, £143,551 ; composition ditto, £l9 466 ; additional 10 per cent, £2G9,St4 ; penalties, £l7l.
