We have reprinted from the Southern Government Gazette the new tariff of the rate of passage money in the Government brig. It will be perceived that it has been suddenly raised to an amount that will virtually preclude the poorer classes of colonists from taking advantage of the accommodation that used to be afforded at a moderate and reasonable price. The cause of the change was simply this •. that the winking class of settlers at Nelson, feeling dissatisfied with their position, nere leaving in great numbers. Mr. Hvre and the Colonial Secretary, wishing to discourage such re-emigration, ordered the passage money to be raised so high that it should be no longer worth their while to quit on board the Victoria ; it being pretty well understood that few of them would run the risk of crossing the straits in small craft.
