AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS.

Messrs H. Matron & Co. report-on the Live Stock Market, &i., for the week ending Thursday, January 25th, 1883, as follows :—Yesterday's market at Adding ton was tlio smallest of the season, both as regards .stock an.i attendance, the fat sitoep yarde being only about one-third full. Harvest operations are of course absorbing the whole attention of farmers

at the present time, and we must not anticipate much improvement in our sales for another three weeks or a month. In mutton, Wednesday's entry was confined to about half a dozen small lines, the early sales for the best quality ruling; from Is to Is 6d per head over last week's rates As the auction drew to a close this keen ness wore off, nnd several lots of lightweight mutton changed o-vuers at late quotations. A few pens of extra fine cross-brede from the. late Mr Chapman's estate brought- up to 13s 6d, merino wethers of the samo consignment to 12s, hoth lines being undoubtedly the plums of the market. Medium weight cross-bred , ' wethers, 11r to 12s ; ewes, 9s 6<i to 10s 6d ; merino wethers, 8s JK For the lx«sl wether mutton, 2d per lb—strong—may be quoted ; medium quality and ewe mutton If (I per lb. Of .store she,ep, from 2000 to 3000 came to hand, principally aged mnrinos antl cross bred two-*toothsV For tho latter a strong demand was shown,, and 9s to 9s 3d per head paid, and a line (if two find four-tooths cross-breds*. being 'placed l»y iis at 10a. Wo also disposed of about 1200 aged station merinos—ewes and wethers—for the former of which we obtained 5s 3d ; the latter 3s lOd to 4s 2d. Fat i'Kibs represented a lanjer entry than usual, and had not several line.s been, taken up for store purnosns (price 6s 9d to. 7s), a glut must havo been.tho result. As it wafTtilJ were cleared at a'flrop of about 6d per head on late rates. As regards the beef markot, tho entry wap below the fiverngo, whilst tho quality, with ono or two was inferior. The salo generally was devoir! of spirit, the various lots being cleared At late rates—Steers, £6 10s to £8 : heifers, £5 to £6 10s, or equal to from. 18s to 21s per 1001 b. In store catlle there was a Mftall supply, though several good lines of two to thrco-yoar-old sieers vrere .penned..' For-this-class of stork thero was a good demand, £5 to £6 per head teing paid for fresh-conditioned lines, thus proving that the right sort of cattle placed in tho market for bond fide sale will command attention and satisfactory prices. Without quoting any advance, there was a slightly better enquiry for the younger classes of cattle, most of the pens being cleared. Tho totals yarded for tho day comprised 5419 sheep, 320 head of catllo, and 56 pigs.
