AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS.

Messrs H. Matson & Co. report on the I_ivo Slock Market, &c, for the week ending Thursday, January 11th, 1883, as'follows : _The early prospect of yesterday's Addington market indicated a small supply of sheep, though just before the commencement of tho sale the pens began to fill rapidly, and at the opening an average entry had been catalogued. The trade was fairly represented, and nearly every line of sheep changed hands ; but a general decline of 6d per head must be recorded on the day's transactions, a few choice lots only upholding last week's rates. The Longbeach wethers were again to the fore in price. 13s paid for some of this line being the top quotation for the day. Messrs Johns, Chapman, and Fleming and Hedley's sheep were also very prime ; in fact Mr Chapman's merino wethers, at 10s Gd, were the general centre of attraction and equal to any that have ever come into this market. Mr Poits' downs were also well competed for, and sold at lis 6d per head, or equal to a quotation of over 2d per lb, though If d to 2d per lb must be taken as the average market rate. In stores there were very fow on offer, hut a strong demand still exists, and the various lots were readily disposed of at prices equal to late rates, 9s being paid for a lino of town hoggets out of the wool. Fat lambs were in fair supply, all being cleared at from 6s 6d to 8s 6d per head, 7s 6.1 being the average 7\ite. The slightly better trade in beef at last week's sale had the effect of bringing together a large entry of fat cattle yesterday. Owing, no doubt, to the fact Vhat a large number of the trade had satisfied (heir requirements privately before the sa'e, competiiion at auction was languid, and th re was a "drop" of 10s per head from last week. Most of what came under the hammer wan, however, sold, at a quotation of from 20s to 22s per 100'b. In stores .here was bnt a limited entry, comprising a fow linos of good young cattle, and whilst for yearlings and two-year-olds (here is hut little demand, with low prices ruling, two to three-year old steers are more .sought after and easily placed at from £4 10s to £5 10s per head. The totals yarded for the day comprised 5567 sheep, 398 head of cattle, and 115 pigs.
