BANKS PENINSULA FARMERS' CLUB.
A meeting of this Club was held on Saturday. Present—the president (Mr Piper), vice-president (Mr Checkley), and 1 Messrs Boothroyd, Jacobson, Barwick, Libeau, and others. MINUTES. The minutes of the former meeting were read and confirmed. NEW MEMBER. Mr Libeau proposed Mr Robt. Dawber as a member of the Club. Seconded by Mr Boothroyd and carried. REMUNERATION. Mr Checkley proposed—"That Mr Bowron's coach expenses to and fro amounting to £1 in all, be refunded to him." Mr Bowron had kindly come there to act as judge at bis own expense. He knew that gentleman travelled free on the railway, and he thought if they paid his coach fare it was the least they could do. He had also been asked by Mr Stephen Watkins if the Club would not vote something to his son Augustus, who had been looking after the cheese at tho Show. He thought it was quite right they should give him something for the trouble he had taken, and proposed they should award him half a sovereign. This was seconded by Mr Boothroyd and carried unanimously. Mr Libeau moved : " That a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Mr Bowron and the Mr Grainsfords, who acted as judges at the late exhibition." This was seconded by Mr Jacobson and carried unanimously. THE LATE EXHIBITION. The awarding the prizes gained at the exhibition was the next subject discussed. The list was gone through and the amount of prizes gained was calculated. It was unanimously agreed to settle the matter as far as possible at once. The president moved—" That Mr Newton be awarded the special prize of 15s, offered by Mr W. Barnett, for the greatest number of prizes taken in the agricultural and pastoral classes." There were several who had taken two prizes like Mr Newton, but that gentleman had taken two first prizes for cheese, so he thought it should De awarded to him. Seconded by Mr Jacobson and carried. Mr Barnett's special prize of 9s, for the best cheese at the show, went to Mr Henning for the cheese exhil ited by him, made by Mr Vogan, and Mr H. C. Jacobson's prize for mulberry leaves went to Mr Augustus Watkins. Mr Jacobson then moved—" That a
r | cheque for £7 7s, being the amount of the i ordinary and special prizes won, out of - those offered by the club, be forwarded to the Hon. Sec. of the Industrial and Horti--5 cultural Association, with a request to him E to distribute them.'' r Seconded by Mr Checkley and carried. 3 With regarl to the additional sum 3 gathered by Mr Duxbury, as additions to 1 the cheese prizes, it was resolved to leave i the matter over till next meeting, when " Mr Duxbury, who had sent word he coul d 3 not attend that day, would be present. outstanding subscriptions. The Secretary reported that there was a still some £44 10s of unpaid subscriptions. s A conversation ensued as to the best 1 way to collect them, and it was determin-ed I immediate steps should be taken, as Aha 3 new subscriptions were now due. \ 3 Mr Checkley then moved —" That th| \ President and Secretary be authorised t$ arrange with Mr Parsons, jun,, fcwjbjlj; - collection of the outstanding subscriptions - due to the Fanners' Club. c This was seconded by Mr Libeau and c carried. S ANNUAL MEETING. 0 Mr S. Hunt moved- "That the annual j meeting of the society be advertise d, in accordance with the Act, to take place on (T Saturday, 27th inst., at the Road Board - Office, Head of the Bay, at 1 p.m. _ Seconded by Mr Libeau and carried. 11 was agreed that the annual accounts > and statements of the Club -be laid before 3 a meeting of the committee at 11 a.m. the 3 same day. i autumn show, i Mr Checkley asked if it would be possible to get up an Autumn Show that • year. 1 The president did not think it practica- • ble ; they should husband their enterprise • and get up a really good Bhow next year. > ACCOUNTS.
