AKAROA HORTICULTURAL AND INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of this committee was held at the Schoolroom on Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs Garwood (in tho chair), Newton, Bicknell, Jacobson, and S. Watkins, Hon. Sec. The minutes of the previous meeting were road and confirmed. The Hon. Sec. stated that some members had suggested that he should write to Messrs Ivory, Nairn, Gimblett, and Abbott, of Christchurch, asking them to act ns judges. He had done so, and received a reply from MiAbbott, to the effect that he could notact, and from Mr Ivory, promising to consider the matter upon certain conditions. After considerable discussion it was resolved to write to Messrs Scaly Bros., Ashburton, and to Messrs Chudleigh and Crooks, of Christchurch, asking them to act as judges. The Hon. Sec. further announced that Mr Cecil Northcote had presented the Society with a handsome Japenese cabinet, to be given as a special prize for the best six roses at the coming Show. It was agreed that the Hon. Sec. write to the Borough Council, asking for a donation in aid of the expenses of the Exhibiton. Several contributions to the prize and general fund were announced. Letters were read. From the Secretary of the Farmers' Club, stating that schedules had been received, and the sweetcorn sent,[distributedamongst members. From Mr Boleyn, enclosing cheque for tickets. From Mr Welch, reporting unsccessful canvass at Head of Bay, Lyttelton. From Mr Coop announcing sale of tickets. From Mr F. W. Williams, enclosing cheque for£2 tcwuds the funds. From Mr Birdling, announcing sale of tickets. From Mr W. Barnett, reporting progress, Messrs Garwood and Jacobson

The following judges were then elected :— Finis Arts—Messrs Farr, Alexander, McGregor, and Welch. Writing, Mapping, &c.—Messrs Wilkins, Adams, and Westenra. Needlework, &c—Mesdames Aylmer, Black, W. Jacobson, and Misses Walkden and Austin. Boquets—Mesdames Jacobson, Wilkins, Nalder, and Westenra. Freehand Drawing—Mr W. Watkins. It was agreed Mr Montgomery should be asked to open the Exhibition. The meeting then adjourned till Tuesday Dec. 12th, at 7.30 p.m.
