(Rkuteu's Telegrams.) Received November 15, 5 p.m. THE OCCUPATION OF EGYPT. London, November 14. In the House of Commons to-day, Mr Gladstone made his promised statement regarding the proposed settlement of affairs in Kgypt. In the course of his speecli he announced that negotiations are now procoeding with a view to the conclusion of an Anglo-Egyptian Convention, providing that Eu r ypt shall be charged with the cost of the British occupation, and fixing definitely the period of such occupation. In the debate which followed, Sir Stafford Northcote complained th.it the Premier's statement was incomplete.

ANTICIPATED FAMINE. Received Nov. 15, 10.15 a.m. Owing to ihe failure of the potato crop, a famine is imminent throughout the west of Ireland. END OF A STRIKE. The shipwrights' strike has been defeated. The men resume work on the former terms. ARABI PASHA. Arabi Pasha has written a lefter to the London Times, in which he protests that the Khodivo in tho first instance sanctioned the war, and that the national party afterwards insisted on his continuing it. THE GERMAN DIET. Berlin, Nov. 14. . The- German Diet was opened to-day by the Emperor William, who, in his speech, stated that the peace of Europe might now be deemed to be assured. THE CLOTURE. Received Nov. 16,1 p.m. London, November 15, Evening. In the Hous* of Commons to-day, the resolutions proposed by Mr Gladstone for the reform of the procedure of the House were again under co .sideration. After further debate, the second rule, providing that motions for adjournment cannot be made before public business has been entered upon, was voted, after some mitigation of the stringency of tho rule had been agreed to by the Premier. THE JOYCE MURDER. Ten persons who were arrested on suspicion of being {concerned in the murder 0 f a ix members of tho Joyce family, at M aa ntrasna, County Gal way, on the 18th of A l, g ust last, have been brought up for dial at Dublin. The prisoners have been arraigned separately, and the trial of tie first was concluded to-day, prisoner being found guilty.
