The match between the Akaroa CO. and Barry's Bay CO. came off on Saturday at French Farm, and resulted in a victory for the A.C.C. on the first innings by 14 runs. Punctually at 9 a.m. Mr Toeswill's " Dream " left tho wharf, conveying the Akaroa team, arriving at 10.30. Mr Tosswill having won the toss elected to take the field, Messrs Broderick and Shadholt being the first at the wickets for the 8.8.C.C. The latter's stay was very short, he being clean bowled by Hamilton before n run had been'scored. Bates followed, and scored 19 before he was dismissed, but bis was an exceedingly lucky inningq. The first five wickets fell for eight runs, then a slight stand was made, the si&th, falling for 21, the seventh for 34, and the last for 38. Messrs Hamilton and Hayward were the first out for Akaron, to face the bowling of Messrs Broderick and Bates, and made a fair stand, the score being 26 before they were parted. The bowling was changed several times, and at length had the desired effect, Hayward being , caught and bowled by Pringle. Maaefield joined Hamilton to receive the balance of the overs when time wiis called ,i for lunch, which was kindly provided by : tlie 8.8.C.C. After doing ample justice to the good things provided, and enjoying a whiff of the pipe the game was resumed, but the end was not far off, the innings closing for 52, thus placing the A.C.C. 14 above their opponents. The second innings of the 8.8.C. proved very different from the first, the Akaioaites getting plenty of leather hunting. The principal scorers were Messrs A. Baker Hussey, T. S. Baker, and Shadbolt. T. S. Baker's 42 consisted of one 3, ten 2's and 19 singles. The A.C. would do well to take a lesson from Messrs Baker and Hussey in the matter of run getting and backing up. The innings closed for 145 at 5.10 p.m., and the Akaroaites had lost two wickets for 7 runs when time was called at 5.30. The match therefore resulted in favor of the A.C.C. on the first innings by 14. Score :— Barry's Bay. First Innings. H. W. Broderick, b A. Tosswill ... 3 A. Shadbolt, b Hamilton 0 G. D.
