The cutter Hannah Jane, a very small one, left Nelson for Pelorus Sound on Saturday night, in charge of a man named Harvey. Willa.n Hftjruerd and his son, a fine young fellow of about 20 were on board. In attempting the Piiss on Sunday night, the current carried the cutter against the beacon with considerable force, nnd in a few minutes afterwards youngr Haguerd was missing from the boat. Uih father, almost frantic, was with difficulty kept from jumping over nfterhim. The cutter after some time got off. and was taken to Turner's Bay for repairs.

Tiik Metropolitan Show.—The following shows the number of entries received in each class for the Metropolitan Agricultural and Pastoral Show on Nov. 9.— Sheep—Merinos 87. Breton, and milch cattle 31, fat cattle 39-137. Horses—Draught 52, thoroughbreds and reputed thoroughbreds 7, carriage horses, backs, cobs, ponies, and hiinters 56. There are, in addition to the above, a few entries to bo added to various classes, which will probably bring the total up to 1200 entries. It should be stated that this year the Association have wisely eliminated the poultry classes from the show, and when this is borne in mind, it will be found that the number of entries for 1882 will compare most favorably with that of any previous year.

Akaboa Regatta Committee. —A meeting of tin's committee was held on Tuesday evening. Present—The Commodore (Mr Tosswill), and Messrs WesUnra, Rich, Black, and Jacobson (Hon. Sec.) The minutes of the prior meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was then read. Prom Trades Rowing Club as follows :-" Chiistchurch, October 26, 1882. Sir, —I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 23rd mat. I think that if the Canoe race were left out and a Double Sculling rnce for juniors under 21 years substituted in its place, it would suit the Chriatchurch rowing men better. We shall enter for both Double Sculling races if you decide to hold the one suggested.— Yours, etc., Albert Runge, Hon, Sec. Trades Rowing Club." From Cure Rowing , [ Club as follows:—"Sir. —l leg to nck- | nowledgo with thanks the proposed progrnine of the coming Akaroa Regatta. If all goes well, I think we shall be likely to be represented in the Pair oared and Double Sculiing races in stump outriggers. The only other events that I can think of. are sculling races for men and youtks under 18, in the same boats, for botli of which we should be sure to enter for if we come over. Hoping to be present at the Regatta as well as our crews.—Yours, etc., Frank Weston, Hon. Sec. Cure Rowing Club. Kaiapoi. 26th Oct., 1882." From Lyttelton Rowing Club as follows:— " Lytte.lton, Uct. 27, 1882. Sir.—l am in receipt of your letter of the 23rd inst., for which please accept our thanks. I cannot suggest any improvement on your last year's programme, which could not be better for us. Our club will be represented in the Fame races as last year, \\& , the Pair Oar and Double Sculling races. Trusting your Regatta will be as successful as on former years.—Yours, etc., B. Gallraitbj, Hon. Sec. L.R.C." From Wellington Star Rowing Club, saying they should not compete in the rowing rices ; and asking if the yacht prize was to be tho same as last year. F.om Union S.S. Company as follows:—"Dunedin, 26th October, 1882. Sir, —I am in receipt of your favor of 20th inrt. The Haw'ea is tho boat that wi'l be at Lyttelton on tho 16th Dec, and we shail probably arrange for her to run down to Akaroa in the morning and returning to Lyttelton in the evening. Ido not feel very sanguine about the success of a trip from Timaru. Tho only way it could be managed would be for the local boat, the Taiaroa or W.iitalii, which is at Timaru on the Friday, to proceed on to Akaroa on Friday night, and return on Saturday night, picking up her Timaru passengers on Sunday morn ing. I have written to our Timaru agents on the subject, am! will communicate with you again if anything comes of it.—Yours, etc., D. Mills, Pro Managing Director." In reference to the last letter, the Commodore and others urged the fact that tliore was littie dou l 't of the Timaru excursion being a success if it were once tried, ho many southern residents having said they would be present if there were any opportunity. It was further the opinion of the committee that the Timaru Racing CiuH would compete if, they could arrango to got a boat down. Tho programme was then adopted in tho form seen in advertisement of this day's issue. The principal alterations from last year are the increase ot the yacht prize from £30 to £40 if two ya hts from other provincial districts compjte. and t*>e addition of a race for juniors, Double Senilis, in stump outriggers. It was agreed that five per cent of the winnings should be derlucted to go towards expenses. A long discus sion on financial matters followed, and it wad though? better tiut Mr H. Aylmer, who had signified hh willingness, should be 'tuthori ed to siiprintend tho canvassing 'or subscriptions on tin Peninsula. The question of canvassing Cliristchnrch was left till a future meeting, and so also w.ia the election of the judges and other officers. Tiie meeting then adjourned to Tuesday Nov. 14th, at same time and place.
