THE ELECTRIC LIGHT AT LYTTELTON HARBOUR.

Christchurch, September 28. The Lyttelton Harbour Board has voted £3000 to light the harbour with electricity. LAND, LAND! Between 600,000 and 700.000 acres of land will be put through the land court, now sitting at Cambridge, Waikato district. MASTERTON NIHILISTS. A bottle of gunpowder was placed under Rev. Mr Izett's carriage at Masterton. ii is supposed on account of his zeal in agitating in the district, tbe enforcement of the Sunday hotel closing law. It exploded and did some dam <ge to the vehicle. MEASLES Af WELLINGTON. At Ihe meeting of the E lucation Board of Wellington to-day, reports were received from various city schools stating the extent to which the at ten-lances were affected by the present prevalence of measles. From these it appeared that the falling off was very considerable, ranging from 30 to over 100 scholars in each school.

At the Wellington police Court to-.liy, Joseph Eids, a strapping youmr mm, was proceeded against on the charge of failing to suppoit his fither and mother, both aged persons. From evidence adduced, it appeared th-t the defendant was twenty two years of age. and th.it he had failed to contribute towards the support of bis parents, one of whom w.ix sightless. There were two other sons, one of whom gave his father aud mother all his earnings, the other being a married man, and unable to contribute anything. His Worship expressed his intention to make an order for the payment of 7s Gd per week, but the father thought the sum was too much, and at his request an order for 5s
was made,
