Littlb River Railway.—Many of the residents in the Spreydon, Halswell, and Tai Tapu sent, a memorial to the Minister of Public Works in July last, through Messrs W. Montgomery, A. P. O'Cullaghari, and the Hon. E. Gray, requesting that a sum of money might be placed o-i the supplementary estimates for the construction of a loop line of railway from Addington to the Little River Railway at Gebbie's valley siding. Mr 11. W. Peryinan, who took v. leading part in the matter, has received a letter from the Rev. A. P. O'Cal labium, M.P. for Lincoln, enclosing the reply of tlk- Minister, which is to the eil'eet that Government were unable to comp'y with the request, but that if the memorialists would avail themselves of the district railway act for jthe constriictioi of the line, the Government would supply the permanent way at cost price.
Missing.—A young man named Winter says the Lyttelton Times, in the employ of Mr Harris, of Hereford street, left town on Thursday with the avowed intention of visiting Akaroa via Rhodes' Bay, and lettirning to Christchurch ou Monday. As he did not return on the last-named day, enquiries were made, and it was ascertained that he had not gone to Akaro'. His friends are about to institute a further search for him, as his disappearance is wholly unaccountable. A further report says ; Messrs Evans and Harris, junr.. who proceeded to Purau with the object of discovering the whereabouts of Mr Winter, returned to Christchurch on Wednesday afternoon, having been unable to find any trace of the missing gentleman. They searched along all the routes that it was probable Mr Wiruer would take, but could obtain no information of him. Inquiries were also made at Governor's B iy, with no better result. Mr Evans states that Sergeant Morice, of the Lyttelton police, was engaged in searching the Head of the Bay, and it is probable that a search party will be organised in ChrLtchurcn to-day to take further action.
