INDUSTRIAL AND HORTICULTURAL ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of tbe Committee of this Association was held on Tu-sday evening. Present —Ilevds. Stocker and Morrison, and Messrs Weetenra, Welsh, S. Watkins. Bicknell, E. Lee, Newton, and Jacobson. The Rev. 11. Stocker was voted to the chair. MINUTES. The minutes of the prior meeting were a-end and confirmed. .CANVASS OF TOWN AND COUNTRY. The Horn Secretary (Mr S. Watkins) stated be bad forwarded circulars, schedules, and tickets to gentlemen residing throughout the county, and also to the rations schools in Christchurch and the Peninsula, to the member for the district and others interested. There had not been time for him to r coive any communications in answer. The memhers who bad been appointed at the last meeting to canvass tlie town then reported that they had received money and promises up to the present time to the amount of £28. HORTICULTURAL PRIZES. It was resolved that £20 be offered for Horticultural prizes, apart from special prizes. This was agreed to with one dissentient. It was then decided that there should be two c'asses, an open and amateur class, so that private possessors of gardens might show against each other, instead of having to stiller the manifest injustice of c nipeting against professional gardeners Ii is ot course the rule that though no giiidi-ner i-nn conift te in the amateur class. i!iiy amateur can ci mpete in the open class. Several mombtrs being of opinion that the schoolroom was far too small with some extra accommodation, it was resolved that the School Committee should I c requested to allow a tent to be erected on the two show days. CONCERT. l\ was determined that a promenade concert should be held in the Exhibition rooms on the evening of January 2, tho second day of the Show. THE PASTORAL SCHEDULE. It having been stated that the Farmers' Club had not yet definitely arranged whether they Avould hold an Agricultural and Pastoral Show this season, but that the matter would be settled at a meeting to be held in Akaroa on Saturday week, it was thought wise to defer the issuing of the Horticultural and Pastoral schedule til! after that date, so that the club might be communicated with on the matter, and it was then resolved : "That the Hon. Secretary write to the Secretary of the Farmers 1 Club, asking the Club to co-operate with the Society in preparing a schedule, and offering prizes for pastoral exhibits,"
