The President said they had several important subjects to think of, notably the question of holding a show this season or leaving it to next, in which latter event he thought they should offer some good prizes for dairy produce, etc, at the show to be held in Akaroa on January Ist, 1883. Another question was regarding the ballot. How many black balls were to exclude ? THE BALLOT, The Vice-president proposed —" That in the ballot one black ball in ten shall exclude." This was seconded by Mr Chatfield and carried. NEW MEMBERS. Messrs George Morgan and Sager were then balloted for and duly elected. CHESSETTS. The. following letter from Mr Duxbury and report of this committee on chessetts were read ;— ' " Robinson's Bay, Sept. 16," 1882. " Sir,—As I cannot possibly be present to-day to lake part in framing a report on the uniform size of chessetts question, I beg leave to express my (pinion upon the matter in writing, which is as follows: — That there should-.be four sizes adopted \<y the club, having 2in of difference in ■diameter, and numbered I, 2, 3.- and 4 tdzes, so that'merchants in giving their •orders might do so by No. If this plan were adopted, cases might always be made an advance, knowing that the Nos would be Mire to fit. This would ensure more genernl in iiormity, dispatch in the execu- j lion of orders, and a saving in freight, and ■convenience to merchants. Tbe sizes I would recommend to be as follows:— No. 1. Bin in diameter by 9'n in depth „ 2. lOin „ „ „ 10in „ „ „ 3. 12in ~ ~ r Hin ~ ~ .. 4. 14iu ~ „ ~ 12in „ „ These sizes would suit the large or small fanner.—Yours, etc., "J. Duxbury." " Akaroa, September 16, 1882. » Sir,—We, the undersigned, agree with Mr Duxbnry's report with the exception of the sizes set forth therein, and would suggest the following sizes as more suitable for this district, viz., *• S'zes. No. Dia. Depth Weight 1. 7 by 11 from 8 to I6lbs 2. 8 „ 11 „ 10 „ 20lbs 3. 10 „ 11 „ 15 „ 25lbs ■4. 12 „ 12 „ 25 „ 35lbs 5. 12 „ 14 „ 35 „ 451bs 6. 14 „ 14 „ 45 „ 551bs 7. 16 „ 14 „ 55 ; , 701bs —Yours, etc., " William Ciiatfield. "George Checkley." ■ The President said much misapprehension existed on this matter. Farmers did not seem to ur.derstand that the proposals •only applied as far as new chessetts were , -concerned It did not mean they were to :get rid or alter any chessetts in use. but simply recommended that when they •wanted new ones they should get them of the stated sizes. Mr Chatfield thought they should write to Page and Sons, of London, as to the best bizes of cheese for the English markets. Their opinion, and that of large cheese buyers in other places, would be of great value. Mr .Sager then "moved—"That the report of the Chessett Committee be adopted, and that the Secretary be instructed tc write to London, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Auckland, Napier, Taranaki Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, Timaru, Oamaru, Dnnedin, Invercargill, Greymoutb, and Hokitika, asking their opinion as tc whether any alteration is needed ; further that the list of sizes be forwarded to the coopers in tbe County, with a request tha they will advise aU purchasers of nev •chessetts to adopt them." Seconded by Mr J. Libeau and carried. report of site committee. Piper, and that offered by Mrs Shadbolt. Before receiving Mrs Shadbolt's letter of 23rd May, 1882, on tbe subject, tbe matter bud been vhtually closed between Mr Piper and tbe Club, but Mr Piper in the most handsome manner waived any rights be may have had in the matter, and left the conmii lee perfectly free to act in any way they thought fit. , Both sites are about the same distance from the main road, and as to drainage and other circumstances, are about equal ; but your committee, after carefully considering the whole bearings of
