AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS.

Messrs 11. Matson and Co. report on the Live Stock Market, &c., for the week ending Thursday, Sept. 7. 1882, as follows: —For yesterday's Addington market a remarkably sun.ill supply of sheep came to hand, though; nearly every lot represented mutton, and that on the whole of an exceptionally good class. South Canterbury ns usual, when contributing to this market, carried off the pahn, every line of sheep sent from that district being heavy weights and grand quality. In comparison to the average sales of the past threo months yesterday's entry represented the proportion of but little more than half, about 3000 sheep only being panned, and this had the effect of quickening sales to a considerable extent, the early clearances going off at an advance of Is, and in some instances Is. 6d per head over list .week's s des. Towards the c.ose of the auction the demand was not quite &s brisk, though with the exception of a couple of pens we cleared all our entry at prices nearly equal to the advance mentioned above. In. crossbreds we disposed of Messrs Kinley, Grant and Fahey's consignments at from 16s to 19s per head, and about 600 or 700' lighter sheep at an average of at.out 15s 6d. In merinos we disposed of a line of 221 wethers at from 12s 6d to 14s, and in stores and crossbred hoggets at 10s 6d ; fresh conditioned mixed crossbreds at 12s 6 1 ; aged lots, 9s to 10;? Gd. We attribute the iise in values for fat sheep solely to the limited supply, and which a full market will again probably reduce. We quote the best wether mutton at per !b, inferior quality at 2J,d. The fat cattle sale was a somewhat irregular nnd unsatisfactory.;-one. .....Starting with a large entry, chiefly of good stock, the auction opened fairly well, although the Longhead) heifers (wonders for weight and quality), at an average of £11 5s per heid,.wore decidedly cheap, and would have brought a couple of pounds par head more bad not tho trade been crammed previously from private sources. On account of Mr J. R. Fleming we disposed of a line of 12 steers at from £9 9s 61 to £13, or an average of about £10 15-1 per head. Most of the remaining lots on our catalogue were also sold, but light weights towards tho end of the sale moved off sluggishly and at slightly reduced rates. In store catt'e there was a limited entry, most of the young stock changing owners at.moderate values The totals yarded for the'day com prised 3636 sheep, 461 head of cattle, and 135 pigs.

Messrs Robert Wilkin and Co. report : — We held on Thursday the usual weekly sale of sheepskins. &c, in our New Zealand woo! stores, at which there was a large .(tendance of buyers. The slrins were in much dein md, which caused keen competition, resulting in a decided improvement in prices a-' compared with last week's sale."
