CATTLE TRESPASS. James Hammond, for having cattle was fined 5s and costs. Alexander Roberts wm -charged with ill treating a calf by leaving it for four •days without food and water. Defendant said he, had no idea that the animal was alive. He had been driving the. cattle with Mr Robertson, who came next day and said the calf was dead. Had he had any idea the animal was alive he would have gone back to see, but he did not kiiuw such was tiie case.

Tue Bench eaid .they would make the •case a warning to tlie Peninsul.'i. There were many who treated animals cruelly nnd deserved punishment. He would line accused £5 and make-him pay costs.

BEACH SHINGLE. Cr Blark asked if the contractors had I ecu stopped from taking shingle from the bench. Cr Ciillen .-aid they had only been asked for their authority hy tho Ilnrbor Master. lie might say that since the last meeting he had seen Mr Aylnier. who had said he would never object to the Council's taking nny shingle required, but at the pante time it must be remembered that they, or anyone elso, could not remove the shingle without his permission. He should always be glad to let tho Council take it. as long as they did no injury to property. The meeting then adjourned.
