Great excitement is generally felt here at the dastardly act of the Akaro-i incendiary, and sincere sympathy for the sufferers.

A second attempt at burglary was made last night at tho loan and discount office of Mr Harris, Lichlield street. The safe, with £70 in it, escaped injury, and the burglar, being disturbed by the unexpected arrival of one of the clerks, decampol.

■Thomas Hewson, a fisherman, was drowned at Terawniti on S-ilurday.-

The, Ada C. Owen is again afloat at West port. Robert Mcllissop, a railway porter, was killed this morning at B ilolutha by getting his head crushed between two trucks.

At Invercargill a fellmonger named Anderson was thrown from his horse today and killed, and Christina Hansen, hurt on tho tramway, died in the hospital yesterday. Many years ago O'Farrell was an influential member of the Catholic community, and Archbishop Goold's solicitor. Owing to litigation, and his being ca«t in heavy damages for running over and killing a mm one dark night, he became insolvent, and hastily left the country for America, where he has been residing until a few months ago. He alleges that the Archbishop owes , him money,-and as he refused to pay lm attempted to shoot him.
