THEFT. Christchurch, August 2-1. Matilda Hansen, charged with stealing £6 from Thomas McGuire, was committed for trial. THE BEAUTIFUL STAR AND ADA C. C OWEN ASHORE. The Union Company's Beautiful Star, loaded with coal, is ashore at West port. The Ada C. C. Owen is also ashore still, despite tne efforts to float her. 1 .ater. The captain of tho Beautiful Star hue signalled—"Grounded on shoal at 5 a.m. Want immediate assistance. Have two anchors out astern. Discharging cargo (coal). May be got off, if immediate assistance is rendered, the next tide. Not making water." The Southern Cross will make an attempt to tow the steamer oil this afternoon, if a sufficiently strong hawser can bo found. No further communication than the above-stated yet to hand with regard to the Beautiful Star. The Ada C. C. Owen is apparently uninjured. Men wero working at her 56 hours at a stretch. BANISHING THE HALF CASTES. At a meeting of Native chiefs at Kohuranui, it was proposed to tarn out of the King country all half-castes, in consequence of Barlow's action in capturing Winiata. PARLIAMENTARY. The lobbies this morning aro quite empty, the appearance of tho fag end of the session. *' Mf- Driver will not likely bring forward his motion re separation. Ministers are evidently tired, and anxious to conclude the session as soon as possible. There are yet 91 bills on the Order Paper to be dealt with, but it is now pretty generally understood thet the session will close the second week in September.
