PRODUCE MARKETS.
Tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report on the Produce Markets for tho week ending August 17th as follows:— Grass Seeds—Notwithstanding an active demand, the supply is free and purchasers nre readily effected at a slight reduction on former rates. We have had several transactions at 5s to 5s 4d for heavy well-dr^on , rye grass. Cocksfoot ia very firm at o|d to 6"fd per lb, according to quality. Potatoes fvre concentrated in a few bands, and this prevents any decline in raten. Shipments are being made to Sydraoy on a liberal scale, which must have the effect of favoring the market here ; 35s to 37s 6.1 ia offered for parcels at country stations, delivery in nli M'ptcinbcr ; 57s Gd to 60s f.0.b.. including sacks'. Dairy Produce—Butter meets with good enquiry at Is to 1h Id for very prime, but for tainted or otherwise inferior quality very low values prevail. Cheese is in better supply, but owing to the divergence in view's of buyers and sellers very little business is passing. Buyer? offer 7£rl, but holders will not quit under 8d per lb.
