AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS.

Messrs H. Matson and Co. report on the Live Stock Market, &c, for the week ending Thursday, August .10, 1882, as follows : —For best Wednesday's Addington market, a largely increased supply of sheep came to hand, about GOOD of all classes being penned. South Canterbury, which for the last Hew weekei ha.s not been as hugely represented here r.a u-ai-ih v/,ns well to the tore on "Wednesday, both t,,s regards quantity and quality, a largo proportion of the best sheep in the market being trucked up from the southern districts. In values, the side ruled -.'omewhat irregularly, trade being dull, with but little competition at the openh-g of tho auction, * ut this was soon recovered, and every line of prime mutton, towards iha middle and iiloso of

the sale, sold freely at prices little, if any, below hist week's' quotations. The most noticeable features of the day were Messrs Chapman's merino wethers and ihe Windsor Pari; croaubrods, both lines of which wore the acme of perfection. The former sold at 15s and 15s 3d, and the lattor at 21a per head. Messrs ytudboinie, W. Chamberlain, John Hurst, J. Stsckboitse, Henderson, and Mcßeath, tho BineclifTs and Dallfield estates, also sent to hand a lot of prime crossbrods, ail of which were sold at from 15s to 19s per head ; fair average weight merino-, 10s to 10s Gd. In sloro sheep there were not many on offer, but those to hand found buyers at full values, (iood fresh young cross-m-d ewes, to lamb early, aro in strong request, and it is only by chance that any find their way into tins market, values being quotable at from lis to 14s per head. Of fat cattle there was a very large entry penned, tbe bulk being of indifferent quality. In the absence of ptinie beef tho trade had, perforce, to put up with a lot of light weights, prices for ■Aiiich riiled at from £5 to £G per head ; 'v: for anything like decent quality there w.-id no difficulty in effecting a clearance at fair prices. Of our entry we had only a few head unsold, the best steers going at from £8 to £10, :owa and heifers to £8 10s, Taken on tho whole, and considering tho large supply, we look upon the day's sale as being a very satisfactory one. In store cattle there were a lot of useful sorts yarded, chiefly two and mree-ycar-old steers and heifers. A few outside buyers were present, and. although the spring trade can scarcely yet be said to have commenced, wo yet. succeeded in disposing of some of tho principal lines at prices bearing out tho improvement noted for some weeks past. The totals yarded for the daycomprised G152 sheep, 4GO head of cattle, and 141 pigs.
