London, June 27. Walsh, an Irishman who was recently arrested at Olerkenwell in connection with the seizure of arms at that place, waa brought up at the Police Court yesterday on a charge of high treason and committed for trial. It is reported that the Egyptians are about to take steps to obtain possession and command of the Suez Canal, and it is further stated that secret preparations have been completed to destroy the banks of of the Canal in.order to prevent the passage of ships. THE AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS. June 29. The cricket match Am.traiii'.nH versus United South of England was resumed today at Ciiichester. A large number of people were again present. The weather was very hot. The United South, with three wickets down for 67 runs, continued their first innings, and succeeded in putting together lb'6. Mr Morris Read (Surrey) was highest scorer with 90. Mr W. E. Gilbert (Gloucestershire) scored 38. Being 334 runs behind their opponents, the United South followed on, but only scored 72 in their second innings, and the Australians thus won the match iv one innings, with 263 runs to spare.
