LICENSING AOT. The Hon. Mr Dfck moved the second reading of the Licensing Act Amendment Bill. Mr Johnston supported the Bill, but intimated that in committee he would move the appointment of comtnitteea be left in the hands of tha Government. That was the course adopted under the old system, and he was not aware of any complaint having been made against the practice. kltjWfas anomalous to leave these appointin the hands of the local bodies, inasmuch as these local bodice derived the fees fiom these licenses. Again, he complained that the elective system had been atfended with a great deal of unnecessary expense. After long discussion, the Bill was rend n second time and ordered to be cotnmitteed tlrtit day fortnight.
