Council have confirmed the decision of the Ratepayers that the following roads shall cease from hereafter to be public highways, in terms of " The Public Works Amendment Act, 1880," sec. 4. sub-section H :— Ist. All that piece of road, containing 5 acres 1 rood 17 perches, more or less, and bounded on the west by sections 571, 5176, 11,324, 7665, 14,107, 8997, and 12,335 ; and on the east by sections 12,474, 11,283, 1597, and 187, Pawson's Valley, Duvauchelle's Bay. 2nd. All that piece of road, containing 2 acres 0 roods 21 perches, mom or less, and bounded by sections 11.490, 12,790, and 11,281, Pawson's Valley, Duvauchelle's Bay, all in the Couniy of Akaroa. All proposed investments arc considered by a Board, consisting of the Honorable Colonial Treasurer, the Attorney General, the Comptroller and Auditor General, the Government Insurance Commissioner, and the Public Trustee. The effective check which is called into operation before any monpys can be paid from the Public Trustee's account. 6th. Reasonable charges : On estates such as are now being considered the Public Trustee is authorised to charge 1-| per cent, on all recepts, and 1-| per cent, on disbursmants, Mid 5s per cent, on all moneys invested... No charge is made for obtaining probate, nor for passing stamp and property tax returns, nor for correspondence, however voluminous. Thus the saving to, estates placed in this office is considerable.
